Participating in the Lismore Base art trail was a fortunate opportunity for me, allowing for the creation of four paintings for the hospital. This experience served as an extraordinary moment of reflection on my artistic direction, heightened by the pressing deadline. The process of contemplating my intended message and understanding its significance was vital, enhancing my creative focus. Each painting became a response to not only the environment of the hospital but also to my personal artistic goals, further deepening my connection to the work and its impact on viewers. This endeavor ultimately reinforced the importance of thoughtful expression in art, especially in a context that holds so much meaning for the community.

Recalling my snorkeling experiences at the Great Barrier Reef played a pivotal role in shaping my artistic choices. The vibrant colors of the coral and the diverse marine life provided a visual feast that translated into bold strokes and dynamic compositions in my work. During my first visit, I was struck by the intricate patterns of the corals and the luminosity of the fish, elements that I sought to capture in my paintings.

My second trip deepened this connection, as I became more attuned to the subtleties of underwater light and shadow. Each moment spent submerged in that ecosystem affirmed my desire to portray nature's complexity. Then, my experience at the Tangalooma wrecks introduced a juxtaposition of man-made structures against serene aquatic life. This contrast inspired a new series of works where I explored themes of transition and decay, emphasising how nature reclaims space over time.

While these experiences shaped my approach to color and form, they also highlighted the importance of context and narrative in my art. The hospital paintings, which preceded my explorations at Tangalooma, reflect a different but equally significant phase of my artistic journey. They delve into themes of healing and vulnerability, serving as a powerful reminder of the fragility of life.

Ultimately, the integration of my snorkeling adventures with reflections from my time in the hospital has deepened my artistic perspective. This journey has led me to a greater awareness of how human experiences intertwine with the natural environment. Through my creations, I seek to illustrate this connection, encouraging viewers to contemplate their own ties to nature and the spaces they occupy.

My primary objective is to inspire a sense of wonder and exhilaration in my audience, allowing them to feel as if they are present in the places I portray. Additionally, I strive to highlight the critical need for the preservation of marine ecosystems, emphasizing their significance regardless of where they exist.
